From: Imam Malik's Muwatta. Chapter 3, Prayer
Narrated/Authority of
Yahya related to me from Malik that Ibn Shihab used to say, "When a man catches the raka he says, 'Allah is greater' once, and that takbir is enough for him." Malik added, "That is if he intended to begin the prayer by that takbir " Malik was asked about a man who began with the imam but forgot the opening takbir and the takbir of the ruku until he had done one raka. Then he remembered that he had not said the takbir at the opening nor in the ruku,so he said the takbir in the second raka. He said, "I prefer that he start his prayer again, but if he forgets the opening takbir with the imam and says the takbir in the first ruku, I consider that enough for him if he intends by it the opening takbir." Malik said, about some one who prayed by himself and forgot the opening takbir, "He begins his prayer afresh ." Malik said, about an imam who forgot the opening takbir until he had finished his prayer, "I think that he should do the prayer again, and those behind him, even if they have said the takbir."

From: Sahih Bukhari. Chapter 3, Knowledge
Narrated/Authority of Said
Abu Shuraih said, "When 'Amr bin Said was sending the troops to Mecca (to fight 'Abdullah bin Az-Zubair) I said to him, 'O chief! Allow me to tell you what the Prophet said on the day following the conquests of Mecca. My ears heard and my heart comprehended, and I saw him with my own eyes, when he said it. He glorified and praised Allah and then said, "Allah and not the people has made Mecca a sanctuary. So anybody who has belief in Allah and the Last Day (i.e. a Muslim) should neither shed blood in it nor cut down its trees. If anybody argues that fighting is allowed in Mecca as Allah's Apostle did fight (in Mecca), tell him that Allah gave permission to His Apostle, but He did not give it to you. The Prophet added: Allah allowed me only for a few hours on that day (of the conquest) and today (now) its sanctity is the same (valid) as it was before. So it is incumbent upon those who are present to convey it (this information) to those who are absent." Abu- Shuraih was asked, "What did 'Amr reply?" He said 'Amr said, "O Abu Shuraih! I know better than you (in this respect). Mecca does not give protection to one who disobeys (Allah) or runs after committing murder, or theft (and takes refuge in Mecca).

From: Sahih Bukhari. Chapter 44, Lost Things Picked up by Someone (Luqaata)
Narrated/Authority of Suwaid bin Ghafala
While I as in the company of Salman bin Rabia and Zaid bin Suhan, in one of the holy battles, I found a whip. One of them told me to drop it, but I refused to do so and said that I would give it to its owner if I found him, otherwise I would utilize it. On our return we performed Hajj and on passing by Medina, I asked Ubai bin Kab about it. He said, "I found a bag containing a hundred Dinars in the lifetime of the Prophet (SAW) and took it to the Prophet (SAW) who said to me, 'Make public announcement about it for one year.' So, I announced it for one year and went to the Prophet (SAW) who said, 'Announce it publicly for another year.' So, I announced it for another year. I went to him again and he said, "Announce for another year." So I announced for still another year. I went to the Prophet (SAW) for the fourth time, and he said, 'Remember the amount of money, the description of its container and the string it is tied with, and if the owner comes, give it to him; otherwise, utilize it.' " Salama narrated the above from Ubai bin Kab, adding, "I met the sub-narrator at Makkah later on, but he did not remember whether Kab had announced what he had found one year or three years."

Narrated/Authority of Ubada bin As-Samit
One day the Companions did not find the Prophet (SAW) among them. (Normally) when they camped, they would lodge him in the middle (of them). They were anxious and thinking that Allah might have selected some other Companions for him. Suddenly, they saw him coming towards them and exclaimed Allahu Akbar! (Allah is All-Great) and they said: O Allah's Messenger (PBUH)! We feared that Allah (SWT) must have selected for you some Companions other than ourselves. Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said: No. Rather you are my companions in this world and the Hereafter. Indeed Allah, the Almighty, awakened me and said: O Muhammad! Verily, I have neither sent any Prophet nor a Messenger without a wish to which I respond and that I now grant you too. So O Muhammad! You should also ask Me something which would be given to you. The Prophet (SAW) said: My wish is an intercession for my followers on the Day of Resurrection., Abu Bakr asked: O Allah's Messenger (PBUH)! What is intercession? He (the Prophet (SAW)) said: I will say: O Lord! My intercession is the pledge I have kept with you. Thereupon, the Lord (SWT) will say: Yes. Then my Lord will take out the rest of my followers from Hell and admit them into Paradise. (This Hadith is sound and reported in Musnad Ahmad).

No response came (that evening). The next day at Muzdalifah he repeated the supplication, and received a response to what he asked for. He (the narrator) said: "The Messenger of Allah (saw) laughed," or he said, "He smiled. Abu Bakr and Umar said to him: 'May my father and mother be ransomed for you, this is not a time when you usually laugh. What made you laugh, may Allah make your years filled with laughter?' He said: 'The enemy of Allah, Iblis, when he came to know that Allah answered my prayer and forgiven my nation, took some dust and started to sprinkle it on his head, uttering cries of woe and doom, and what I saw of his anguish made me laugh.'"

They said: This is the valley of Azraq, and he observed: (I perceive) as if I am seeing Moses (peace be upon him) coming down from the mountain track, and he is calling upon Allah loudly (saying: Here I am! at your service! ). A bedouin came and said, "O Allah's Apostle (SAW)! Judge between us according to Allah's Laws." His opponent got up and said, "He is right. Judge between us according to Allah's Laws." The bedouin said, "My son was a labourer working for this man, and he committed illegal sexual intercourse with his wife. The people told me that my son should be stoned to death; so, in lieu of that, I paid a ransom of one hundred sheep and a slave girl to save my son. Then I asked the learned scholars who said, "Your son has to be lashed one-hundred lashes and has to be exiled for one year." The Prophet (SAW) said, "No doubt I will judge between you according to Allah's Laws. The slave-girl and the sheep are to go back to you, and your son will get a hundred lashes and one year exile." He then addressed somebody, "O Unais! go to the wife of this (man) and stone her to death" So, Unais went and stoned her to death.
