that his father said: "Zaid bin Thabit departed from Marwan at mid-day. I said: He has not sent him out at this time of the day except for something he asked. So I asked him, and he said: He asked me about some things we heard from the Messenger of Allah (saw) say: "Whoever is focused only on this world, Allah will confound his affairs and make him fear poverty constantly, and he will not get anything of this world except that which has been decreed for him. Whoever is focused on the Hereafter, Allah will settle his affairs for him and make him feel content with his lost, and his provision and worldly gains will undoubtedly come to him."

From: Sahih Bukhari. Chapter 44, Lost Things Picked up by Someone (Luqaata)
Narrated/Authority of Ubai bin Kab
I found a purse containing one hundred Dinars. So I went to the Prophet (SAW) (and informed him about it), he said, "Make public announcement about it for one year" I did so, but nobody turned up to claim it, so I again went to the Prophet (SAW) who said, "Make public announcement for another year." I did, but none turned up to claim it. I went to him for the third time and he said, "Keep the container and the string which is used for its tying and count the money it contains and if its owner comes, give it to him; otherwise, utilize it."
The sub-narrator Salama said, "I met him (Suwaid, another sub-narrator) in Makkah and he said, 'I don't know whether Ubai made the announcement for three years or just one year.' "

From: Sunan Ibn Majah. Chapter 27, The Chapters on Jihad
Narrated/Authority of Anas bin Malik
that his maternal aunt Umm Harim bint Milhan said: "The Messenger of Allah (saw) slept near me one day, then he woke up smiling. I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what has made you smile?' He said: 'People of my nation who were shown to me (in my dream) riding across this sea like kings on thrones.' I said: 'Supplicate to Allah to make me one of them.'" So he prayed for her. Then he slept again, and did likewise, and she said the same as she said before, and he replied in the same manner. She said: "Pray to Allah to make me one of them," and he said: "You will be one of the first ones." He said: "Then she went out with her husband, Ubadah bin Samit, as a fighter, the first time that the Muslims crossed the sea with Mu'awiyah bin Abu Sufyan. On their way back, after they had finished fighting, they stopped in Sham. An animal was brought near for her to ride it, but it threw her off, and she died."

From: Sunan An-Nasai. Chapter 8, The Book of the Masjids
Narrated/Authority of Abdullah bin Kab
"I heard Kab bin Malik telling the story of when he stayed behind from going out on the campaign of Tabuk with the Messenger of Allah (saw). He said: 'The Messenger of Allah (saw) came back in the morning, and when he came back from a journey he would go to the Masjid first and pray two Rakahs there, then he would sit to (meet with) the people. When he did that, those who had stayed behind came to him and started giving their excuses, swearing by Allah. There were eighty-odd men, and the Messenger of Allah (saw) accepted what they declared and accepted their oaths of allegiance; he prayed for forgiveness for them and left whatever was in their hearts to Allah. Then when I came and greeted him, he smiled as one who is angry, then he said: 'Come here.' So I came and sat in front of him,* and he said: 'What kept you behind? Did you not buy a mount?' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, if I were to sit before anyone other than you of those who hold high positions in this world, I would find a way to avoid his anger. I am an eloquent man but, by Allah, I know that if I were to tell you a lie today to make you pleased with me, Allah would soon make you angry with me, but if I tell you the truth, it will make you angry with me, but I will still have hope that Allah may forgive me. I have never been in a better position, physically or financially, than the time when I stayed behind and did not join you.' The Messenger of Allah (saw) said: 'This man has spoken the truth. Go away until Allah decides concerning you.' So I got up and went away." This is an abridged version of narration. (Sahih)
*It is this which the author cites the narration for. While the absence of the mention of a thing - in this case prayer - is not a proof that it does not exist.

"I came one night to guard The Prophet (saw), and there was a man reciting loudly. The Prophet (saw) came out and I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, this man is showing off.' Then he died in Al-Madinah, and they finished preparing him, then they carried his dead body. The Prophet (saw) said: 'Be gentle with him, may Allah be gentle with him, for he loved Allah and His Messenger.' Then his grave was dug and he (The Prophet (saw)) said: 'Make it spacious for him, and may Allah make it spacious for him.' Some of his Companions said: 'O Messenger of Allah, you are grieving for him.' He said: 'Yes indeed, for he loved Allah and His Messenger.'" Sahih

Yahya related to me from Malik that Abdullah ibn Abdullah ibn Jabir ibn Atik said that Abdullah ibn Umar had come to them in Bani Muawiya, one of the villages of the Ansar, and said, "Do you know where the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, prayed in this mosque of yours? "I told him, "Yes," and I pointed out a place near where he was. He said, "Do you know the three things for which he made dua here?" I said "Yes." He said, "Tell me them then." I said, "He asked that He would not make an enemy from among the non-believers triumph over the believers and that He would not destroy the believers by bad harvests, and he was given both these things. And he asked that He would not make the believers fight among themselves, and that was refused." Ibn Umar said, "You have told the truth," and he added, "Turmoil will not cease until the day of rising."

From: Sahih Bukhari. Chapter 54, Jihaad (Fighting for the cause of Allah)
Narrated/Authority of Anas bin Malik
Um Haram told me that the Prophet one day took a midday nap in her house. Then he woke up smiling. Um Haram asked, "O Allah's Apostle (SAW)! What makes you smile?" He replied "I was astonished to see (in my dream) some people amongst my followers on a sea-voyage looking like kings on the thrones." She said, "O Allah's Apostle (SAW)! Invoke Allah to make me one of them." He replied, "You are amongst them." He slept again and then woke up smiling and said the same as before twice or thrice. And she said, "O Allah's Apostle (SAW)! Invoke Allah to make me one of them." And he said, "You are amongst the first batch." 'Ubada bin As-Samit married her (i.e. Um Haram) and then he took her for Jihad. When she returned, an animal was presented to her to ride, but she fell down and her neck was broken. (And she died).

Yahya related to me from Malik that Humayd ibn Qays al-Makki said, "A man came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, with the two sons of Jafar ibn Abi Talib. He said to their nursemaid, 'Why do I see them so thin?' Their nursemaid said, 'Messenger of Allah, the evil eye goes quickly to them. Nothing stops us from asking someone to make incantations (using ayats of Quraan) for them, except that we do not know what of that would agree with you.' The Messenger of ,Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, 'Make incantations for them. Had anything been able to precede the decree, the evil eye would precede it.' "
