Hadith No: 2
From: Imam Nawawi's 40 hadith. Chapter 1, An-Nawawi's 40 Hadith
Narrated/Authority of Umar bin Al-Khattab
who said:"While we were one day sitting with the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu 'alayhi wasallam, there appeared before us a man dressed in extremely white clothes and with very black hair. No traces of journeying were visible on him, and none of us knew him. He sat down close by the Prophet, sallallahu 'alayhi wasallam, rested his knee against his thighs, and said, O Muhammad! Inform me about Islam." Said the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu 'alayhi wasallam, "Islam is that you should testify that there is no deity save Allah and that Muhammad is His Messenger, that you should perform salah (ritual prayer), pay the zakah, fast during Ramadan, and perform Hajj (pilgrimage) to the House (the Ka'bah at Makkah), if you can find a way to it (or find the means for making the journey to it)." Said he (the man), "You have spoken truly." We were astonished at his thus questioning him and telling him that he was right, but he went on to say, "Inform me about iman (faith)." He (the Messenger of Allah) answered, "It is that you believe in Allah and His angels and His Books and His Messengers and in the Last Day, and in fate (qadar), both in its good and in its evil aspects." He said, "You have spoken truly." Then he (the man) said, "Inform me about Ihsan." He (the Messenger of Allah) answered, " It is that you should serve Allah as though you could see Him, for though you cannot see Him yet He sees you." He said, "Inform me about the Hour." He (the Messenger of Allah) said, "About that the one questioned knows no more than the questioner." So he said, "Well, inform me about the signs thereof (i.e. of its coming)." Said he, "They are that the slave-girl will give birth to her mistress, that you will see the barefooted ones, the naked, the destitute, the herdsmen of the sheep (competing with each other) in raising lofty buildings." Thereupon the man went off. I waited a while, and then he (the Messenger of Allah) said, "O 'Umar, do you know who that questioner was?" I replied, "Allah and His Messenger know better." He said, "That was Jibril. He came to teach you your religion."" [Muslim]

From: 110 Hadith Qudsi. Chapter 1, 110 Ahadith Qudsi (Sacred Hadith)
Narrated/Authority of Abu Huraira
Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said: When Allah created Adam and breathed soul into him, he sneezed. He said: Praise be to Allah, by His permission. At this his Lord said to him: Your Lord has bestowed mercy on you. 0 Adam! Go to those angels sitting there and greet them. So Adam said: As-salamu Alaykum (peace be upon you). They responded to him. On you too the same and Allah's mercy (Wa Alaykum as-salam). Then he came back to his Lord. Allah said: It will be your greeting and the greeting of your offsprings. Allah (SWT) said having made His Hands closed: Select anyone of them. Adam said: I select the right hand and both the hands of my Lord are right and blessed. Then Allah spread it. There was Adam and his generation. Adam asked: 0 Lord! Who are these people? Allah said: They are your children. Every human being's life is written between his eyes. Among them was a man with the brightest face. For him was written only forty years of age. Adam said: 0 Lord! Who is this fellow? Allah said: This is your son Daud (David). His life span is written forty years. Adam said: 0 Lord! Increase his age. Allah said: This is what I have written down for him. He said: Then I give him sixty years of my age. Allah said: This is between you and him. Live in Paradise. He lived there as long as Allah wished. Then he was descended from it to earth. Adam was counting his age. Then the death angel came to him. Adam said to him: You have come earlier. For me, one thousand years have been written. The angel said: Yes, but out of them you have given sixty years to your son Daud. Adam denied that so his successors also denied. He forgot, so his successors also forgot. From that day, Allah ordered writing down and making witnesses (for pledges). (This Hadith is sound and reported by Ibn Abi Asim, Ibn Hibban and Hakim in his Mustadrak).

From: Sahih Muslim. Chapter 1, Faith (Kitab Al Iman)
Narrated/Authority of Abu Huraira
One day the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) appeared before the public that a man came to him and said: Prophet of Allah, (tell me) what is Iman. Upon this he (the Holy Prophet) replied: That you affirm your faith in Allah, His angels, His Books, His meeting, His Messengers and that you affirm your faith in the Resurrection hereafter. He (again) said: Messenger of Allah, (tell me) what does al-Islam signify. He (the Holy Prophet) replied: Al-Islam signifies that you worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him and you establish obligatory prayer and you pay the obligatory poor-rate (Zakat) and you observe the fast of Ramadan. He (the inquirer) again said: Messenger of Allah, what does al-Ihsan imply? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: That you worship Allah as if you are seeing Him, and in case you fail to see Him, then observe prayer (with this idea in your mind) that (at least) He is seeing you. He (the inquirer) again said: Messenger of Allah, when would there be the hour (of Doom)? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: The one who is asked about it is no better informed than the inquirer. I, however, narrate some of its signs (and these are): when the slave girl will give birth to he master, when the naked, barefooted would become the chiefs of the people, these are some of the signs of (Doom). (Moreover) when the shepherds of the black (camels) would exult themselves in buildings, this is one of the signs of (Doom). (Doom) is one of the five (happenings wrapped in the unseen) which no one knows but Allah. Then he (the Messenger of Allah) recited (the verse):"Verily Allah! with Him alone is the knowledge of the hour and He it is Who sends (down the rain) and knows that which is in the wombs and no person knows whatsoever he shall earn tomorrow, and a person knows not in whatsoever land he shall die. Verily Allah is Knowing, Aware. He (the narrator, Abu Huraira) said: Then the person turned back and went away. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: Bring that man back to me. They (the Companions of the Holy Prophet present there) went to bring him back, but they saw nothing there. Upon this the Messenger of Allah remarked: he was Gabriel, who came to teach the people their religion.

Hadith No: 103
From: 110 Hadith Qudsi. Chapter 1, 110 Ahadith Qudsi (Sacred Hadith)
Narrated/Authority of Abu Huraira
When this verse was revealed to Allah's Messenger (PBUH): "To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth and whether you disclose what is in your minds or conceal it, Allah will reckon you according to it. Then He will forgive whom He pleases and chastise whom He likes as Allah is All-Omnipotent over every thing." The narrator said: The Companions of Allah's Messenger (PBUH) felt it hard. They came to him, sat down on their knees and said: 0 Messenger (PBUH) of Allah, we have been assigned with some duties (tasks) which we have capability to perform such as: prayer (Salat), fasting (Saum), fighting in Allah's way (Jihad), and charity (Zakat). Now this (the above mentioned verse) was revealed to you and it is beyond our power to live up to. Then Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said: Do you intend to say what the people of the two Scriptures (the Jews and Christians) had said before you: "We hear and disobey". Rather you should say: "We hear, obey and seek your forgiveness, our Lord! And to You is the return". When the people recited it, their tongues became subdued with it. Then Allah revealed: "The Messenger (PBUH) believes in what is sent down to him from His Lord, and so do the believers (following him). Each one believes in Allah and His angels and His Books and His Messenger (PBUH)s, saying: We differentiate not between any of His Messenger (PBUH)s; and they say: We hear and seek your forgiveness, our Lord! And to You is the return". When they (the Companions) said the same, Allah abrogated this verse and Allah the All-Great, revealed a new one replacing it: "Allah burdens not a soul beyond its capacity. It gets every good that it earns and it suffers every ill that it earns. Our Lord! Punish us not, if we forget or make a mistake". (When the Companions repeated the same words) Allah said: Yes: (The Companions further repeated the words as revealed to Prophet (SAW) Muhammad (SAW) Our Lord! Do not lay on us a burden as that you had laid on those before us. Allah said: Yes. (The Companions further repeated) Our Lord! impose not on us (burdens) which we have no strength to bear. Allah said: Yes. (The Companions further repeated) And pardon us and provide us protection; and have Mercy on us. You are our Patron, so please grant us victory over the disbelieving people" Allah said: Yes. (2:285,6) (This Hadith is sound and reported by Muslim).

that when it was revealed to the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him): To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth and whether you disclose that which is in your mind or conceal it, Allah will call you to account according to it. Then He forgives whom He pleases and chastises whom He Pleases; and Allah is over everything Potent" (ii. 284). the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) felt it hard and severe and they came to the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) and sat down on their knees and said: Messenger of Allah, we were assigned some duties which were within our power to perform, such as prayer, fasting, struggling (in the cause of Allah), charity. Then this (the above-mentioned) verse was revealed unto you and it is beyond our power to live up to it. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: Do you intend to say what the people of two books (Jews and Christians) said before you:" We hear and disobey"? And they said:" We hear and we obey, (we seek) Thy forgiveness, Our Lord! and unto Thee is the return." When the people recited it and it smoothly flowed on their tongues, then Allah revealed immediately afterwards:" The Apostle believes in that which is sent down unto him from his Lord, and so do the believers. Each one believes in Allah and His Angels and His Books and His Apostles, saying: We differentiate not between any of His Apostles and they say: We hearken and we obey: (we seek) Thy forgiveness, our Lord! and unto Thee is the return" (ii. 285). When they did that, Allah abrogated this (verse) and the Great, Majestic Allah revealed:" Allah burdens not a soul beyond its capacity. It gets every good that it earns and it suffers every ill that it earns. Our Lord, punish us not if we forget or make a mistake." From: Sunan Ibn Majah. Chapter 40, The Chapters on Ascetism (Zuhd)
Narrated/Authority of Said bin Al-Musayyab
that he met Abu Hurairah and Abu Hurairah said: "I supplicate Allah to bring you and I together in the marketplace of Paradise," Saeed said: "Is there a marketplace there?" He said: "Yes. The Messenger of Allah (saw) told me that when the people of Paradise enter it, they will take their places according to their deeds, and they will be given permission for a length of time equivalent to Friday on earth, when they will visit Allah. His Throne will be shown to them and He will appear to them in one of the gardens of Paradise. Chairs of light and chairs of pearls and chairs of rubies and chairs of chrysolite and chairs of gold and chairs of silver will be placed for them. Those who are of a lower status than them, and none of them will be regarded as insignificant, will sit on sandhills of musk and camphor, and they will not feel that those who are sitting on chairs are seated better than them." Abu Hurairah said: "I said: O Messenger of Allah, will we see our Lord? He said: Yes. Do you dispute that you see the sun and the moon on the night when it is full? We said: No. He said: Likewise, you will not dispute that you see your Lord, the Glorified. There will be no one left in that gathering with whom Allah does not speak face to face, until He will say to a man among you: "Do you not remember, O so-and-so, the day you did such and such?" And He will remind him of some of his sins in this world. He will say: "O Lord, have You not forgiven me?" He will say: "Yes, it is by the vastness of My forgiveness that You have reached the position you are in." While they are like that, a cloud will cover them from above and will rain down on them perfume the like of whose fragrance they have never smelled before. Then He will say: "Get up and go to the honor that has been prepared for you, and take whatever you desire." So we will go to a marketplace surrounded by the angels, in which there will be such things as eyes have never seen, ears have never heard and it has not entered the heart of man. Whatever we desire will be carried for us. Nothing will be bought or sold therein. In that marketplace the people of Paradise will meet one another. A man of elevated status will meet those who are of lower status than him, but none shall be regarded as insignificant, and he will be dazzled by the clothes that he sees on him. He will not finish the last of his conversation before better clothes appear on him. That is because no one should be sad there." "He said: Then we will go back to our homes where we will be met by our wives, and they will say: Welcome. You have come looking more handsome and with a better fragrance than when you left us. And we will say: Today we sat with our Lord, the Compeller, the Glorified, and we deserve to come back as we have come back."

Narrated/Authority of Abu Huraira
that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: Ask me (about matters pertaining to religion), but they (the Companions of the Holy Prophet) were too much overawed out of profound respect for him to ask him (anything). In the meanwhile a man came there, and sat near his knees and said: Messenger of Allah, what is al-lslam? to which he (the Holy Prophet) replied: You must not associate anything with Allah, and establish prayer, pay the poor-rate (Zakat) and observe (the fasts) of Ramadan. He said: You (have) told the truth. He (again) said: Messenger of Allah, what is al-Iman (the faith)? He (the Holy Prophet) said: That you affirm your faith in Allah, His angels, His Books, His meeting, His Apostles, and that you believe in Resurrection and that you believe in Qadr (Divine Decree) in all its entirety, He (the inquirer) said: You (have) told the truth. He (again) said: Messenger of Allah, what is al-Ihsan? Upon this he (the Holy Prophet) said: (Al-Ihsan implies) that you fear Allah as if you are seeing Him, and though you see Him not, verily He is seeing you. He (the inquirer) said: You (have) told the truth. He (the inquirer) said: When there would be the hour (of Doom)? (Upon this) he (the Holy Prophet said: The one who is being asked about it is no better informed than the inquirer himself. I, however, narrate some of its signs (and these are): when you see a slave (woman) giving birth to her master, that is one of the signs of (Doom); when you see barefooted, naked, deaf and dumb (ignorant and foolish persons) as the rulers of the earth, that is one of the signs of the Doom. And when you see the shepherds of black camels exult in buildings, that is one of the signs of Doom. The (Doom) is one of the five things (wrapped) in the unseen. No one knows them except Allah. Then (the Holy Prophet) recited (the folowing verse): "Verily Allah! with Him alone is the knowledge of the hour and He it is Who sends down the rain and knows that which is in the wombs and no person knows whatsoever he shall earn on morrow and a person knows not in whatsoever land he shall die. Verily Allah is Knowing, Aware. He (the narrator, Abu Huraira) said: Then the person stood up an (made his way). The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: Bring him back to me. He was searched for, but they (the Companions of the Holy Prophet) could not find him. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) thereupon said: He was Gabriel and he wanted to teach you (things pertaining to religion) when you did not ask (them yourselves).

From: Sahih Muslim. Chapter 1, Faith (Kitab Al Iman)
Narrated/Authority of Ibn Shamasa Mahri
that he said: We went to Amr b. al-As and he was about to die. He wept for a long time and turned his face towards the wall. His son said: Did the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him not give you tidings of this? Did the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) not give you tidings of this? He (the narrator) said: He turned his face (towards the audience) and said: The best thing which we can count upon is the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Apostle of Allah. Verily I have passed through three phases. (The first one) in which I found myself averse to none else more than I was averse to the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) and there was no other desire stronger in me than the one that I should overpower him and kill him. Had I died in this state, I would have been definitely one of the denizens of Fire. When Allah instilled the love of Islam in my heart, I came to the Apostle (may peace be upon him) and said: Stretch out your right hand so that may pledge my allegiance to you. He stretched out his right hand, I withdrew my hand, He (the Holy Prophet) said: What has happened to you, O 'Amr? replied: I intend to lay down some condition. He asked: What condition do you intend to put forward? I said: should be granted pardon. He (the Holy Prophet) observed: Are you not aware of the fact that Islam wipes out all the previous (misdeeds)? Verily migration wipes out all the previous (misdeeds), and verily the pilgrimage wipes out all the (previous) misdeeds. And then no one as or dear to me than the Messenger of Allah and none was more sublime in my eyes than he, Never could I, pluck courage to catch a full glimpse of his face due to its splendour. So if I am asked to describe his features, I cannot do that for I have not eyed him fully. Had I died in this state had every reason to hope that I would have bee among the dwellers of Paradise. Then we were responsible for certain things (in the light of which) I am unable to know what is in store for me. When I die, let neither female mourner nor fire accompany me. When you bury me, fill my grave well with earth, then stand around it for the time within which a camel is slaughtered and its meat is distributed so that I may enjoy your intimacy and (in your company) ascertain what answer I can give to the messengers (angels) of Allah.

From: 40 Hadith Qudsi. Chapter 1, 40 Hadith Qudsi
Narrated/Authority of Anas
from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who said: "The believers will gather together on the Day of Resurrection and will say: 'Should we not ask [someone] to intercede for us with our Lord?' So they will come to Adam and will say: 'You are the Father of mankind; Allah created you with His Hand, He made His angels bow down to you, and He taught you the names of everything, so intercede for us with your Lord so that He may give us relief from this place where we are.' And he will say: 'I am not in a position [to do that]' - and he will mention his wrongdoing and will feel ashamed and will say: 'Go to Noah, for he is the first messenger that Allah sent to the inhabitants of the earth.' So they will come to him and he will say: 'I am not in a position [to do that]' - and he will mention his having requested something of his Lord about which he had no [proper] knowledge (Qur'an Chapter 11 Verses 45-46), and he will feel ashamed and will say: 'Go to the Friend of the Merciful (Abraham).' So they will come to him and he will say: 'I am not in a position [to do that]. Go to Moses, a servant to whom Allah talked and to whom He gave the Torah.' So they will come to him and he will say: 'I am not in a position [to do that]' - and he will mention the talking of a life other than for a life (Qur'an Chapter 28 Verses 15-16), and he will feel ashamed in the sight of his Lord and will say: 'Go to Jesus, Allah's servant and messenger, Allah's word and spirit.' So they will come to him and he will say: 'I am not in a position [to do that]. Go to Muhammad (may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), a servant to whom Allah has forgiven all his wrongdoing, past and future.' So they will come to me and I shall set forth to ask permission to come to my Lord, and permission will be given, and when I shall see my Lord I shall prostrate myself. He will leave me thus for such time as it pleases Him, and then it will be said [to me]: 'Raise your head. Ask and it will be granted. Speak and it will be heard. Intercede and your intercession will be accepted.' So I shall raise my head and praise Him with a form of praise that He will teach me. Then I shall intercede and He will set me a limit [as to the number of people], so I shall admit them into Paradise. Then I shall return to Him, and when I shall see my Lord [I shall bow down] as before. Then I shall intercede and He will set me a limit [as to the number of people]. So I shall admit them into Paradise. Then I shall return for a third time, then a fourth, and I shall say: 'There remains in Hell-fire only those whom the Qur'an has confined and who must be there for eternity.' There shall come out of Hell-fire he who has said: 'There is no god but Allah' and who has in his heart goodness weighing a barley-corn; then there shall come out of Hell-fire he who has said: 'There is no god but Allah' and who has in his heart goodness weighing a grain of wheat; then there shall come out of Hell-fire he who has said: 'There is no god but Allah' and who has in his heart goodness weighing an atom. It was related by al-Bukhari (also by Muslim, at-Tirmidhi, and Ibn Majah).

that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said: "The believers will be gathered on the Day of Resurrection, inspired or worried." - Saeed was not sure - "And they will say: If we seek someone to intercede for us with our Lord, we may find relief from our situation. So they will go to Adam and will say: You are Adam, the father of mankind. Allah created you with His Hand and His angels prostrated to you. Intercede for us with your Lord, that He might grant us relief from our situation. He will say: I am not the one, and he will mention to them and complain of the sin that he committed. He will feel too shy to do that (and will say): Rather go to Nuh, for he is the first Messenger whom Allah sent to the people of earth. So they will go to him, but he will say: I am not the one, and he will mention of how he asked of Allah that of which he had no knowledge.* He will feel too shy to do that (and will say): Rather go to the Close Friend of the Most Merciful, Ibrahim. So they will go to him and he will say: I am not the one. Rather go to Musa, a slave to whom Allah spoke and to whom He gave the Torah. So they will go to him and he will say: I am not the one, and he will mention how he killed a soul, not in retaliation for murder (and will say): Rather go to Isa, the slave of Allah and His Messenger, the Word of Allah and a spirit created by Him. So they will go to him, but he will say: I am not the one. Rather go to Muhammad, a slave whose past and future sins Allah forgave. So they will come to me and I will go with them." - There was a similar report from Hasan who added (the Prophet (saw) said:) And I will walk between two rows of the believers." Then he went back to the Hadith of Anas. - And he said: "And I will ask my Lord for permission and permission will be given to me. When I see Him I will fall down prostrating, and I will be left as long as Allah wills to leave me. Then it will be said: Get up, O Muhammad. Speak, you will be heard; ask, you will be given; intercede, your intercession will be accepted. I will praise Him with praise that He will teach me, then I will intercede, and a limit will be set. Then they will be admitted to Paradise, and I will come back a second time. When I see Him I will fall down prostrating, and I will be left as long as Allah wills to leave me. Then it will be said: Get up, O Muhammad. Speak, you will be heard; ask, you will be given; intercede, your intercession will be accepted.
